Spring Series 2025 Race2 – 23rd April 2025. The second race in the so far soggy Spring Series was sailed by 7 crews in a punchy breeze of 10kts to 21kts from the south to east south east; the forecast of rain and higher winds deterring a handful from removing their boat covers. For the second week, the juniors in Division 2 outnumbered the faster fleet in Division 1, 4 Teras to 3...

Races 14 & 15 – 9th March 2025. Mild March temperatures and easy going neap tides greeted the sailors for the final day of racing of the Frostbite series at Neyland Yacht Club, yet again, with the wind blowing from the east. The course for the day was set as a port hand triangle with a downwind start from the club line, first a run to a dropped buoy within the moorings, then a...

Neyland Yacht Club Frostbite Series 2025 Races 12 & 13 – 2nd March 2025. The 13 assembled boats for the penultimate day of the Frostbite series were welcomed by mild temperatures, clear skies, a light breeze from the east and a freshly ebbing very high spring tide. A simple sausage-shaped course was set between Batts buoy to windward of the club start/finish line...

Races 6 & 7 – 2nd Feb 2025 138 years to the day after the first official gathering for Groundhog Day the fleet of sailors at Neyland YC may have thought they were in a constantly repeating cycle - another Frostbite Sunday with shifty wind from the SE, would the prevailing Sou’westerlies make an appearance in this series? 14 boats in division 1 and 6 boats in...

The first race of the day, 4th in the series, started on time at 10:30. The course,...
Tuesday 15th April 2025
Spring has sprung, although the weather that prevailed for the opening evening of the Spring Series racing was direct from Winter- air temperature in the single digits, lots of rain, and a gusty shifting wind from the northwest blowing between 10 knots in the quiet patches and the high twenties in the gusts. This weather may have deterred some sailors from venturing out for the evening, but seven...
Sunday 12th January 2025
Races 2 & 3 – 12th Jan 2025. With the forecast of mild temperatures and a building breeze from the south entry numbers increased to 24 boats across both divisions for the second weekend of the Frostbite series at Neyland YC. As predicted, the wind was blowing from the SSE F2-3 for the first race, with a downwind start from the club line under the chosen course. Space on the...
Against the expectation of the majority of the weather forecasts the assembled fleet of 14 crews at NYC was greeted by mild temperatures and not a dead calm for the first race day of the 2025 Frostbite Series. A patient wait was rewarded by a fresh and gusty breeze (10-23kts) from the south after lunch. A compact triangular course was set to the east of the club beginning with a downwind...
Another year and another Frostbite Series has come to a close! Despite the relentless rolling in of Atlantic storms, NYC race officer Emily Cook managed to get in 12 races for a series that is most likely to be remembered for being either windy or even windier! The sailors proved up to the challenge though with some close racing in...
A large gathering of dinghy sailors, from young to veteran, met at the club on Monday 15th November for the annual prize giving and award of training certificates. Under the leadership of the Training Principal, Rhys Bromhall, our team of instructors awarded well deserved certificates to their Stage 1 to Stage 4 junior sailors. The Dinghy Captain, Simon Goodwin, then awarded the prizes for...
And that's the sun gone down (quite literally) on the NYC Dinghy Summer Series! Thank you to all of the sailors for turning up and making it such a great series with some really high quality racing, particularly in the (mostly), youthful Div 2 fleet. Big thanks also to volunteers , rescue boat crew, cabin crew and our Race Officer Rhys Bromhall for keeping us safe and out racing all...
Neyland Yacht Club was proud to host the BYS Welsh Regional championships for the RS Tera class over the weekend of 26th and 27th September 2020. Worries about Covid and travel restrictions over parts of South East Wales meant that the number of participants was limited. Still, competition amongst the ten young sailors who took part was fierce and a great time was had by all. Huge...
Well that's a wrap for this year's Frostbite Series and what a way to finish with 2 races in perfect breeze (at last...) and some of the prizes being decided right on the finish line of the last race! It doesn't get much better than that. In Division 2 the battle went right to the very end of the last race with Macsen Barber taking 1st place from Sirene Le Petit by just 1 point in...
