Neyland hosts British Youth Sailing Welsh Regional Championships
Neyland Yacht Club was proud to host the BYS Welsh Regional championships for the RS Tera class over the weekend of 26th and 27th September 2020. Worries about Covid and travel restrictions over parts of South East Wales meant that the number of participants was limited. Still, competition amongst the ten young sailors who took part was fierce and a great time was had by all. Huge congratulations are due to Macsen who managed to record wins in all eight races, but he was hard pressed by Nina and Sirene who took second and third places overall.
The conditions on Saturday were testing, with a northerly wind gusting at over 20 knots. Sunday was much more pleasant, with perfect sailing breezes albeit still from a chilly Northerly direction. Yet, when asked what they enjoyed most about the weekend, it was the speed and exhilaration of the first day that many of the sailors mentioned above all.
Comments from the parents included that the weekend was well run, with the youngsters receiving a wealth of encouragement and having a good experience. “The best Zones we’ve been to. Well organised, great atmosphere, all the right decisions”, said one parent.
Thanks are due to all the volunteers and not least to race officer Rhys Bromhall for his skills of organisation and persuasion to enable this event to go ahead.
